III. Generative AI Is Already Changing White-Collar Work as We Know It

Generative AI is rapidly changing white-collar work, according to a panel of executives at the WSJ Jobs Summit. A new study suggests most jobs will be changed in some form by generative pretrained transformers, or GPTs, which use machine learning to generate any kind of text. However, executives stress that AI cannot replace a human touch, and workers should embrace new technology to free them from less-rewarding work and augment their strengths. Workers and employers should invest in retraining and upskilling where possible to adapt to the rapidly evolving role of AI in office work.

II. Usage as the Moat in AI

It’s important to develop moats in the field of generative AI as startups seek to stake out their market against incumbents like Microsoft and Adobe. While capital and technical expertise currently provide a competitive advantage, long-term usage will be the enduring moat, as machine learning systems benefit from more use and researchers observe improved model performance with increased usage. The link between innovation and distribution in generative AI is more users leading to a better product and vice versa.

I. How AI Changes the Media Business

AI is disrupting the media industry by dramatically reducing the cost of content creation and improving recommendation systems. As a result, media companies will need to compete on social dimensions and community building to win the future. It’s possible AI will smash creation and aggregation into each other, leading to a world of personalized content and the death of middle-man information producers.
